SENATE PASSES PAID FAMILY LEAVE LEGISLATION: LEGISLATION IS NOW ON GOVERNOR CORZINE’S DESK

We would like to thank members of the State Senate that voted today in support of S-786 (Sweeney / Buono), Paid Family Leave legislation. The Senate passed the bill by a vote of 21-15-4, mostly along party lines. All Democrats voted in favor except Senator Turner (D-15) and Senator Gill (D-34) who voted against the bill. Senator Rice (D-28) did not vote. All Republicans present voted against the bill except Senator Bill Baroni (R-14), who voted in support. Please CLICK HERE for the final vote.

The New Jersey State AFL-CIO thanks Majority Leader Steve Sweeney for his strong advocacy of this bill. Without his staunch support, passage of this legislation could not have been possible. We also would like to thank Senate President Codey for posting this important pro-family bill and Senator Barbara Buono for her sponsorship. The New Jersey State AFL-CIO also thanks all of our affiliates and partner organizations in the New Jersey Partnership for Working Families that participated in lobbying efforts in support of this important legislation.
Please also click here for the the Assembly vote tally.
The bill has now passed both houses of the Legislature and is on the Governor’s desk for consideration. Governor Corzine has said he supports the bill.
