New Jersey is fortunate to have two candidates with outstanding voting records supporting the concerns of working families. 

 

Yesterday’s press announcement citing a New Jersey State AFL-CIO endorsement of U.S. Senator Frank R. Lautenberg was inaccurate due to a lack of relevant information. 

 

The New Jersey State AFL-CIO requires a two-thirds vote by its Executive Board to allow endorsement of a primary election candidate. Earlier last week, the New Jersey State AFL-CIO polled its executive board members regarding a possible primary race between U.S. Senator Lautenberg and Tom Byrne, in which an overwhelming amount of board members were supportive of U.S. Senator Frank Lautenberg. 

 

In lieu of last night’s announcement by U.S. Congressman Rob Andrews publicizing his candidacy for the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate, the New Jersey State AFL-CIO polled its executive board members today, this time regarding a primary contest between Lautenberg and Andrews. The poll results were inconclusive and did not establish a two-thirds vote in support of one candidate or the other. This outcome allows New Jersey State AFL-CIO affiliates to support the candidate of their choice in the Primary Election.
