Thank You for Another Banner Year!
The New Jersey State AFL-CIO extends a special thank you to everyone who helped make November 6, 2007, Election Day, another banner year for the labor movement in the State of New Jersey.
"The grassroots efforts of more than 10,000 trade unionist turned an otherwise cold and rainy day into one of great achievement for the labor movement," stated Charles Wowkaneach, President, New Jersey State AFL-CIO. "Once again, the time and energy our affiliated unions and local members contributed during this campaign proved to be the decisive factor in the election of 36 labor candidates." These milestone victories bring the total number of rank-and-file union member victories to 476 since the inception of the Labor Candidates Program, far outpacing any other state in the union.
From the union leadership statewide that led the way in every component of this campaign, to the Central Labor Council and Building Trades Council presidents who recruited volunteers for phone banks and labor walks, to our union brothers and sisters that gave so much of themselves to exceed the goals laid out in the Labor 2007 plan, to the New Jersey State AFL-CIO Retirees' Committee who placed tens of thousands of phone calls to union voters in key districts, to the hundreds of thousands of union voters who made their voices heard in the ballot box, the victories achieved this Election Day would not have been possible without the 100% support of everyone involved.
"This electorial success is vital to our ability to continue to advocate for pro-working family policies at the local, county and state level, and with the addition of union brothers John Amodeo, IUOE 825, and Wayne DeAngelo, IBEW 269, to the New Jersey Legislature, the voices of working families will be heard louder than ever on important issues such as Paid Family Leave, school construction, health care, and continued property tax reform."
